How to be an MVP in the fight against hunger this holiday season.
As Americans get ready to enjoy some food and football this Thanksgiving, Taste of the NFL reminds NFL fans there is a simple and fun way to cheer on their favorite team and help others who may not know where their next meal is coming from. The Kick Hunger Challenge,® an online fundraiser, pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other in a “friendly competition” to raise money for food banks in NFL communities nationwide.
Click, give, score. By simply logging on to www.KickHungerChallenge.com, fans can make a donation of any size in the name of their favorite team and 100 percent of proceeds will go to the food bank in the team’s community. The Kick Hunger Challenge Champion will be announced during Super Bowl week and the food bank of the winning team will receive a donation match up to $10,000.
“Unfortunately, there are too many Americans who won’t enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner this year as one in six people in our country struggle with hunger,” said Wayne Kostroski, founder of Taste of the NFL. “We want to rally fans to take the Kick Hunger Challenge to support their favorite team and directly impact the donation of meals to the food bank in their team’s community—just $10 can provide up to 80 meals.”
The Kick Hunger Challenge hopes to raise $300,000 this season which would provide a total of approximately 2.4 million meals1 for 32 food banks – one in each NFL city. The current mid-season standing show the New Orleans Saints are in the lead with more than $8,000. The New England Patriots are in second place with $6,500 and the Minnesota Vikings are third with $4,700.
In addition to the Kick Hunger Challenge, Taste of the NFL invites fans to attend its annual Super Bowl “Party with a Purpose,” which will take place in New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013—the eve of Super Bowl XLVII. The strolling food and wine event pairs 32 of the country’s best chefs (one from each NFL market) with a current or alumni player from each NFL team to raise funds for hunger relief.
