WHY: Nearly 50 million Americans struggle with hunger including many children. According to Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap project, more than 600,000 Minnesotans do not have enough food to eat. In the past 22 years, Taste of the NFL has distributed more than $14 million to food banks in NFL cities through its annual Super Bowl fundraiser. Additional hunger relief funds are raised through NFL team’s local events, such as Taste of the Vikings, and Taste of the NFL’s KickHungerChallenge.com—an online fundraiser that pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other in a “friendly competition” to raise money for food banks in NFL communities nationwide.
