Taste of the NFL kicks off annual campaign to fight hunger during Hunger Action Month
With the NFL season in full swing, fans nationwide have an opportunity to make a play of their own to support their favorite team while feeding the hungry in their community. Taste of the NFL, the non-profit that unites the country’s best chefs with NFL greats for hunger relief, announces a new season of the Kick Hunger Challenge® — an online fundraiser that pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other in a “friendly competition” to raise money for food banks in NFL communities nationwide.
Now in its 3rd year, the Kick Hunger Challenge’s 2012-13 game plan is to raise $300,000 which would provide a total of approximately 2.4 million meals1 for 32 food banks – one in each NFL city. To date, the Kick Hunger Challenge has raised more than $200,000, enough to provide more than 1.6 million meals to feed the hungry. Last year’s championship team was the Atlanta Falcons who raised $17,750 for hunger relief.
“Too many families still do not have access to enough food, including one in five children,” said Wayne Kostroski, founder of Taste of the NFL. “We must all come together to end hunger in America, and everyone can be a champion of this cause by participating in the Kick Hunger Challenge. Since September is Hunger Action Month, there is no better time to log on and make a contribution in the name of your favorite team and directly impact the donation of meals in your own community.”
How the Kick Hunger Challenge Works:
Fans log on to (www.KickHungerChallenge.com) to make a donation of any amount ($10 and up) in the name of their favorite team. 100 percent of that donation will be given to the local food bank paired with that team.
Kick Hunger Challenge participants will receive e-mail messages throughout the football season letting them know how their team is doing compared with others across the league.
“The Kick Hunger Challenge Champion” will be announced during Super Bowl week and the food bank of the winning team will receive a donation match up to $10,000.
In addition to the Kick Hunger Challenge, Taste of the NFL invites fans to attend its annual Super Bowl “Party with a Purpose,” which will take place in New Orleans on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013—the eve of Super Bowl XLVII. The strolling food and wine event pairs 32 of the country’s best chefs (one from each NFL market) with a current or alumni player from each NFL team to raise funds for hunger relief.
