Player Spotlight: Chad Hennings, Dallas Cowboys

Chad Hennings, Taste of the NFL’s player representative for the Dallas Cowboys, recently helped to host the Cowboys’ eighth annual Taste of the NFL event to benefit the North Texas Food Bank. The Ultimate Dallas Cowboys Tailgate Party took place on May 20 with several former Cowboys on hand to greet guests and gourmet food stations from area’s best chefs including Taste of the NFL Chef Kent Rathbun of Abacus who also helped Hennings to host the festivities along with Cowboys defensive end Jason Hatcher.

We recently caught up with Hennings, former defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys and three-time Super Bowl champion, to get some highlights from the Dallas event as well as his predictions for the upcoming NFL season.

Q: How long have you been involved with Taste of the NFL and what made you decide to participate? A: For 5 years. I wanted to be a part of something that had an immediate impact on helping people in my local community.

Q: Can you share some highlights from “The Ultimate Dallas Cowboys Tailgate Party?”

A: This event put the total money raised over these past few years to over $1 million dollars. The recent event was the biggest to date regarding attendance and sponsorships. It also started a new relationship with Omni Hotels in regards to hosting the event at their new facility located next to the Dallas Convention Center.

Q: Why should someone come to a Taste of the NFL event? A: First and foremost is to support your local food bank in raising funds for local programs to battle hunger. Secondary to that is to enjoy the phenomenal cuisine put together by the chefs and to rub elbows with some of the players from your favorite NFL team.

Q: What are you up to these days? A: I speak to a variety of audiences on leadership, character and commitment. I also am a part of a venture capital group primarily investing in oil and gas, real estate and biotechnologies.

Q: Do you have big plans for the summer?

A: Try to stay cool in the Texas heat.

Q: Any predictions on the 2012-13 NFL season and who we will see in New Orleans? A: Dallas Cowboys will have a break out year where they will meet the Steelers.
