Taste Of The NFL Raises Record $1 Million At 20th Annual Super Bowl Event
More than 3,500 guess joined culinary stars and NFL players from each NFL market to raise funds for hunger relief.
Taste of the NFL, a non-profit dedicated to kicking hunger in America, announces it raised a record-setting $1 million at its 20th annual fundraising event on Saturday, Feb. 5th in Fort Worth as part of Super Bowl weekend in North Texas. This year’s “Party with a Purpose®” was the biggest to date with more than 3,500 guests filling the sold-out Fort Worth Convention Center to sample specialty foods from each NFL city, mingle with current and former NFL greats and enjoy the music of country star Martina McBride.
Since 1992, Taste of the NFL has raised money in support of food banks throughout the United States through its annual Super Bowl party. Proceeds from this year’s event will be distributed among food banks in each NFL city nationwide with 30 percent staying in the Super Bowl host city to be split among the North Texas Food Bank and the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
“We raised a record $1 million for hunger relief which proves that everything is bigger in Texas,” said Wayne Kostroski, founder of Taste of the NFL. “It truly was a Texas-sized party, and we couldn’t have reached our goal without our amazing line-up of chefs and players representing each NFL market, the founding chefs and players who returned to make special appearances and the tremendous support of the entire North Texas community.”
Other highlights of the milestone evening included appearances by Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, Roger Staubach (Hall of Fame former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and chairman of the Super Bowl XLV Host Committee), Daryl Johnston (former Dallas Cowboy and honorary chair of Taste of the NFL XX) and Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief . In addition, two stars from TLC’s “Cake Boss” were onsite to serve a commemorative Taste of the NFL 20th anniversary cake—a giant replica of the football field from Cowboy’s stadium including Taste of the NFL on the giant Jumbo-tron.
