Here in the Heartland, we’re striving to be a leader in hunger relief—to set a national example for how collaboration and innovation can result in sustainable—ongoing—hunger relief.”

WCCO Radio, Taste of the NFL, Land O’Lakes and General Mills are together again bringing you the 3rd annual “Let’s Kick Hunger Day” Radiothon, January 12th, from 5am to 6pm at the Mall of America.

Become a Hunger Hero by donating $10 per month or $120 for the year.   Donations will be accepted on January 12.

Join the effort on WCCO Radio as we raise money to benefit Second Harvest Heartland and Feeding America affiliates through Taste of the NFL.  General Mills, and Land O’Lakes know that hunger is too big for anyone to handle alone.

Get ready to help in the fight against hunger January 12th by becoming a Hunger Hero.  Learn more online at www.wcco.com/kickhunger

We recently caught up with Greg Hardesty of Recess and Room Four and chef representative for the Indianapolis Colts at Taste of the NFL. Here's what he had to say:

Q: How long have you been with Taste of the NFL?

A: This will be my sixth year.

Q: What is your most memorable moment from participating in Taste of the NFL

A: My first year participating was also the year the Colts won the Super Bowl. It was obviously a great weekend and the fact that I even got to rock with Styx at the TNFL event was pretty cool. ("Grand Illusion" was the first album I ever bought.)

Q: What do you want visitors to know about Indy?

A: Indy is a great young city that continues to grow and become more vibrant. Besides downtown, look for the cool pockets of the city like Broad Ripple, Fountain Square, Mass Ave and Lafayette Corridor. This is where all the history and neighborhood joints are located.

Q: What is it like to cook for 3,000 guests?

A: It’s a lot like cooking for 75 or 80 guests. It’s all about preparation...

While all eyes are on Indy for Super Bowl XLVI, next year’s Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans. We recently had the chance to talk with a new member of our roster, Morten Andersen who is a former kicker for the New Orleans Saints. He will appear alongside Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace at the Saints’ station at this year’s event.

Q: What are you looking forward to in Indy?

A: Great food and great company with everyone for a great cause.

Q: Why do you participate in the Taste of the NFL?

A: Opportunity to network and help others at the same time. It is a win/win!

Q: Since the Saints are out of the Super Bowl this year, who are you cheering for?

A: I played for Giants in 2001 so I'm hoping that the Mara and Tisch families get the Lombardi Trophy.

Q: Why should someone come to the Taste of the NFL?

A: To make a difference in someone else’s life while having a great time with like-minded people.

Q: With the Super Bowl headed to New Orleans next year, what do you want people/fans to...

Last month, a Taste of the NFL event in Boston raised approximately $6,500 to benefit The Greater Boston Food Bank. Steve DiFillippo of Davio’s, who is also Taste of the NFL’s chef representative for the New England Patriots, gathered some of Boston’s top chefs to host the evening of food and wine pairings for this first-ever event. Way to go!

Vikings fans, Theresa and Scott Read, wanted to have a good time for a good cause.  So they joined Taste of the NFL's Kick Hunger Challenge, hosted a dinner party for 20  of their closest friends, asked for a small donation, and raised an incredible $2,645 -- which will go

directly to the Second Harvest Heartland Food Bank right here in Minnesota!

Their Lobster Boil on October 6 featured fresh lobsters brought to

guests by the famous Smack Shack food truck of Minneapolis and wine and spirits courtesy of Thomas Liquors of St. Paul, MN.

Guests enjoyed bagging their lobsters before sitting down to their feast. They also bid on packages, including Vikings' tickets and brunch at Bar Abilene, a Happy Hour for 10 at Bar Abilene (both courtesy of Bar Abilene) and tickets to the Minnesota Vikings Taste of the Vikings event, being held November 19 at the Mall of America.

The efforts of Scott and Theresa show how easy it is to make a difference.  You...

Hunger is not just a third world problem.

Forty-nine million people in the U.S.—one in

four children—don't know where their next meal is coming from. Directors Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush examine this issue through the lens of three people struggling with food insecurity: Barbie, a single mother who grew up in poverty and is trying to provide a better life for her kids; Rosie, a fifth-grader who often has to depend on friends and neighbors to feed her and has trouble concentrating in school; and Tremonica, a second-grader whose asthma and health issues are exacerbated by the largely empty calories her hardworking mother can afford. The film includes insights from sociologist Janet Poppendieck, author Raj Patel and nutrition policy leader Marion Nestle; and activists such as Witness to Hunger's Mariana Chilton, Top Chef's Tom Colicchio and Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges. Ultimately, A Place at the Table shows us how hunger poses serious economic, social and cultur...
