Considering Tobin McAfee's Italian and Scottish heritage, it is no wonder this chef has such culinary creativity. Tobin has trained in kitchens all over the world since early childhood. As he worked his way around Charlotte, he quickly became known as a "hit maker" at such restaurants as Crossroads and Metropolitan Café. He finally went out on his own and opened Sir Edmond Halley's with partner Svend Deal. With a traditional English pub décor and menu, Halley's is a multicultural gathering place where Chef Tobin puts a creative spin on, and a beautiful presentation to, such old English favorites as cottage pie and fish and chips. Tobin participates in many charitable activities during the year, including Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation(r) and the Southern Cooking benefit for the homeless, in addition, Halley's always shows a major presence at the Chemical Dependency Center Golf Tournament. In keeping with the pub atmosphere, Halley's also sponsors the Charlotte Exiles rugby team.
